Call your senator to stop Sessions

c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800Yesterday, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee completed confirmation hearings for U.S. Attorney General nominee, Sen. Jeff Sessions. As the top lawyer for the United States, the Attorney General is responsible for protecting all Americans’ rights and liberties. Yet, President-Elect Trump’s nominee for the position has a long history of actively opposing the rights and liberties of people of color, immigrants, women and queer people. He has consistently advanced policies that undercut the rights, dignity, health and well-being of communities most impacted by HIV. Over his congressional career he has:

  • Jeopardized essential reproductive health care services, including HIV and STI prevention and treatment services for 2.5 million people, by voting repeatedly to defund Planned Parenthood;
  • Disenfranchised people of color by supporting strict voter ID laws;
  • Voted against reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act;
  • Opposed the federal Hate Crimes law;
  • Voted against the DREAM Act and called for an end to birthright citizenship;
  • Supported adding a permanent amendment to the U.S. Constitution to prevent marriage equality; and
  • Co-Sponsored the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) which would allow discrimination under the guise of religious freedom. If passed, the law would give federally funded social service agencies the ability to refuse services to LGBTQ people.

Sessions’ record speaks for itself. It give us every indication that he will not enforce the laws put in place to protect us. Help us stop Sessions – together we can make a difference. Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected with your state’s Senators now!
