Thank you to the Counter Narrative Project and Positive Women’s Network – USA for co-sponsoring this webinar. Also, thank you to our amazing presenters for providing us with an insightful and power discussion.

Michael’s trial was marked by undercurrents of HIV stigma, homophobia and racial tension. Yesterday, a judge ruled on Michael’s sentence. Michael received a 30 year and six month sentence under the Missouri state HIV criminalization law.

This webinar discusses next steps on justice for Michael Johnson and gives an update on the current on-the-ground efforts and a discussion of advocacy strategy from a legal, media, intersectional and activism perspective. Also, the webinar provides opportunities for advocates to become engaged in ongoing efforts for justice for Michael.

Webinar presenters included:

  • Mayo Schrieber, Jr., Deputy Director, Center for HIV Law and Policy
  • Robert Suttle, Assistant Director, Sero Project
  • Steven Thrasher, Writer At Large at the Guardian, Contributing Editor at BuzzFeed, Doctoral Fellow in American Studies at NYU

Moderator: Charles Stephens, Director, Counter Narrative Project
